Definition
A problem-solving technique that verifies equations and performs conversions by treating units as algebraic quantities that multiply, divide, and cancel.
Explanation
To convert 60 miles per hour to meters per second: 60 mi/h × 1609.344 m/mi × 1 h/3600 s = 26.82 m/s. The miles and hours cancel algebraically, leaving m/s. Unit analysis also catches errors: if a force equation yields kg·m/s instead of kg·m/s², a factor of time is missing.
