Définition
L'estimation d'une valeur entre deux points de données connus en supposant une relation fonctionnelle (le plus souvent linéaire) entre eux.
Explication
If water boils at 100°C at sea level (0 m) and at 93.3°C at 2,000 m altitude, linear interpolation gives a boiling point of 96.65°C at 1,000 m. Lookup tables in engineering handbooks use interpolation for intermediate values. Linear interpolation introduces errors when the true relationship is non-linear — at extreme altitudes, a quadratic fit is more accurate.
