トゥイップ

定義

ポイントの1/20に等しい活字単位で、1インチの1/1440(約17.64マイクロメートル)に相当する。

解説

Twips were introduced as an internal measurement unit in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Visual Basic to allow integer arithmetic on fine typographic dimensions without floating-point errors. At 1440 twips per inch, a standard US letter page is 12,240 twips wide. Though invisible to end users, twips appear in legacy file formats such as RTF and in Windows GDI coordinate systems, making them relevant to developers working with older document standards.
